(PRESS RELEASE) MEMPHIS, TN — Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, recently announced the additions of Renee Brauns and Dr. Stuart Tasman, O.D., to its Board of Trustees. Both bring with them a deep knowledge of SCO and a shared passion to uphold its standing as an excellent optometric institution for current and future optometrists.

“Throughout their careers, Renee and Dr. Tasman have contributed to the advancement of the optometric industry in significant ways — Renee through her service to the American Optometric Association and Dr. Tasman as a well-respected Georgia practitioner,” said Lewis Reich, O.D., president of SCO. “Their careers demonstrate a commitment to the profession of optometry, improving the ways we educate optometrists and serve patients. We’re looking forward to them bringing their experiences and perspectives to SCO’s Board of Trustees, continuing to help us provide high-quality education for future optometrists.”
As an organizational strategic and alignment specialist, Brauns has unparalleled experience and insight into strategic planning and business. She served in the American Optometric Association for 22 years, including the positions of chief operating officer and associate executive director. She was recognized by Vision Monday as the Most Influential Women in the Executive Suite list in 2013. Brauns graduated from Greenville University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business management.
Dr. Stuart Tasman
Tasman spent the entirety of his career working in private practice optometry. Upon earning his Doctor of Optometry from SCO in 1980, he founded a private practice in Acworth-Kennesaw, Georgia, and he currently owns Wildwood Eyecare in Marietta, Georgia. Industry peers in his state have honored him with various accolades, including Young Optometrist of the Year, Optometrist of the Year and the Georgeanna Bearden Award for Lifetime Achievement. Tasman was a Georgia Trustee for SECO International and currently is a third-party chair for the Georgia Optometric Association. Tasman is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and he earned his Doctor of Optometry from SCO in 1980.

Brauns and Tasman join 12 other trustees overseeing the management of SCO. Together, the board continues to ensure SCO is a bastion in the field of optometric education and care.
