Investor-backed company is aiming new tech at those with presbyopia.
An Israel-based startup called Deep Optics is developing glasses with lenses that can automatically adjust their optical power in real time, a technology that the company hopes will be useful for those presbyopia, the MIT Technology Review explains.
The article says that the lenses are designed with “a see-through liquid-crystal layer that can change its refractive index – that is, the way light bends while passing through it –when subjected to an electrical current that depends on sensor data about where a wearer’s eyes are trying to focus.” Venture capitalists recently pumped $4 million into the company, which also counts Essilor among its investors.
