The price of his Christmas cookies is a donation to an eyecare nonprofit.
By day, James Lender manages an optical shop in Uniontown, PA. By night, at this time of the year, he’s stationed at his oven, producing snickerdoodles, rum balls, oatmeal raisin cookies and the like to sell for the benefit of OneSite. Instead of dollars — $35 for a small tray $70 for a large – customers pay in donations to the charity, whose mission it is to provide access to quality eyewear and eyecare in under-served countries worldwide. “I believe in what we are doing,” says Lender, who has assembled a corps of volunteers to assist in the holiday effort. “I find it essential to be able to see. The world we live in, the people around us. Friends. Family. Loved ones. We all deserve this wonderful gift.”
