MANAGEMENT April is often one of the less hectic months. Block out time for planning, cross-training, or a rejuvenating break.
RECALL Kick your recall game into high gear. As Dr. Zachary Dirks of St. Peter and Belle Plaine Eyecare Centers in Saint Peter, MN, notes: “This is naturally a slower time of year for us so it is doubly important to get it done now.”
Apr. 3-9
MANAGEMENT With the arrival of spring, people’s attentions turn to the outdoors. And yours should turn to what they’ll wear. “Summer is all about sunglasses and swim goggles. Advertise Rx scuba goggles, awesome sunglasses,” says Amie Robinson of Spring Hill Eyecare in Spring Hill, TN.

MARKETING Invest in finding places where you can differentiate your business. These can be big and small. What does your door handle look like? What’s your voicemail message sound like? What’s your 404 Error page say? Could you make your cash register receipts more fun? Think of the power of 1,000 points of differentiation. And get busy.

FINANCES Talk to your bank about establishing or increasing a line of credit. It sounds counterintuitive but the best time to apply for a bank loan or a new line of business credit is when you don’t need it. Should the economy falter, getting access to financing will get much harder.
Apr. 17-23
MERCHANDISING Has your fresh Vision Expo East inventory arrived? Highlight select items in-store and online with this message: “Brand New for You from America’s Biggest Eyewear Show.” Consider offering your favorite customers an exclusive sneak peek at your new stuff.
STAFF Ask employees for their summer vacation requests.
Apr. 24-30
MANAGEMENT Don’t be “all business.” Balance casual conversation and business conversation with your staff. Just a few quality minutes each day spent getting to know the people who work for you will do wonders for their morale. Schedule the time if you have to.
MARKETING Here’s a fun goal for the coming warmer months: Make a friend from a different generation. Could be a youngster or a senior. Either way they are likely to give you great insights into core markets.
