(PRESS RELEASE) The Vision Council Foundation recently partnered with 20/20 Onsite to bring quality eyecare services to Boston residents at the Boston Public Library’s Grove Hall branch in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Through 20/20 Onsite’s mobile vision clinic, members of the community were able to drop in to get their eyes checked and learn more about eye health. Screenings checked for distance, reading, and color vision, and those who needed further care or vision correction were given referrals to local eyecare providers.
The Vision Council Foundation also provided visitors with educational materials about eye health and optical industry careers. These resources, available for download in the See What Matters promotional toolkit, align with the Foundation’s commitment to helping people everywhere prioritize their eye health and spread awareness of the connection to overall wellbeing.
Product Donation Request
Would you like to get involved and donate readers to the Grove Hill branch? Library staff shared the different ways they provide access to visually impaired patrons, including high visibility keyboards and large print text. They are always looking for ways to improve their offerings and often do so through their “Community Cupboard” – a space where members of the community can take or borrow useful items, including clothes and tools. Staff members expressed that reading glasses would be a welcome donation and are in high demand. If you are interested in donating product to this vital community resource, reach out to Abigail Crosby at acrosby@thevisioncouncil.org.
Be Part of the Vision
The Vision Council Foundation strives to improve eye health awareness and access through public education campaigns and critical market research, as well as optical industry career path programming and scholarships. Our vision is to create a future where vision care is recognized as healthcare, and everyone has the knowledge, access, and opportunity to make informed decisions about their eye health.
