THE TALENT POOL has shrunk and the pickings are slim. When there is a lack of quantity AND quality in new hires, you’re bound to get some interesting candidate stories. In our 2021 Big Survey, we asked respondents to share the most surprising answers they have received from interviewees to the question “What’s your biggest weakness?” What they relayed varied from the obviously clueless to the clearly criminal.
- “I am too lazy to go out 24 hours a day and wanted to stay indoors.”
- “My rich family is forcing me to find work.”
- “I don’t have the willpower to keep going.”
- “I am not able to say no.”
- “I’m unreliable.”
- “I have a cell phone addiction.”
- “I get stressed easily.”
- “I’m crazy.”
- “I have a mental disorder.”
- “I stole from my previous employer.”
- “I am a control freak.”
- “I am never on time anywhere.”
- “I have zero patience with people.”
- “I don’t like kids…” (while sitting in front of a wall filled with pictures of kids with their first eyewear.)
- “I have a hard time dealing with stupid people.”
- “I like clutter.”
- “I hate people.”
- “I was arrested but they couldn’t prove how much money I took.”
- “My last boss didn’t HAVE to call the cops I was just speaking my mind.”
The 2021 Big Survey was carried out between September and October, attracting almost 400 anonymous responses from owners of vision business across the United States. The full results are published in the November-December issue of INVISION.
