Tyra Smizes for Nine West
Authentic Brands Group, owner of Nine West, has named Tyra Banks the global ambassador for the brand. She will act as the voice and face of Nine West’s global campaigns, including its eyewear collection with Marchon, and will participate in key brand activations starting in 2020. Nine West will unveil its fall campaign, entitled “Groundbreakers,” on Oct. 1. Prevent Blindness’ new no-cost toolkit — “Diabetes and the Eyes” — provides materials in English and Spanish to educate the public on the effects of diabetes on vision and eye health. According to its study, “The Future of Vision: Forecasting the Prevalence and Costs of Vision Problems,” more than 8 million Americans have diabetes-related retinopathy. Those numbers are projected to see a 63 percent increase to 13.2 million by 2050. CDC Finds Bad CL Habits
The Centers for Disease Control’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report found only a third of CL-wearing adults recalled hearing any wear and care recommendations from their ECP, despite providers reporting they shared all nine contact lens recommendations at initial visits, check-ups and complication-related visits. In AOA’s survey of practicing eyecare providers, doctors reported sharing all nine recommendations regularly, but most frequently when patients present with a CL-related complication. To help bridge the communication gap, AOA developed a resource for ODs and their CL teams emphasizing the ‘teach-back’ method. aoa.org
