Using Coins for Kindness and More Manager’s Tasks for December and January

Dec. 1-7

SHOWROOM Don’t have a selfie corner? Set up something now to capture the holiday crowds. No huge investment needed, just somewhere with a great backdrop and lighting for a quality photograph. Preferably, the background would feature your logo but be neutral enough to let your bespectacled customers shine.

Dec. 8-14

COMMUNICATIONS Be sure to let your VSP patients know that “they have a Jan. 1 rollover for that second Rx, sunglasses, computer, etc.” urges Dr. Texas Smith of Dr. Texas L. Smith & Associates in Citrus Heights, CA.

Dec. 15-21

MANAGEMENT Put five coins in your right pocket and move one to your left pocket each time you praise someone. By day’s end, all the coins should be in your left. Praise is usually the best way to guide behavior.

Dec. 22-28

MANAGEMENT Before you close on Christmas Eve thank every team member personally for his/her effort this year, and especially in the last few weeks.

STRATEGY If you usually break down long-term business goals by quarter, month, week, and so on, try something different: six-week project goals. Focus everyone on and working toward a goal that is almost tangible.

Jan. 5-11

STORE DECORATIONS The last symbols of winter should have been banished from your business. It may still be freezing outside but inside you want your customers thinking of spring. Order in fresh flowers. Perhaps roses pre-Valentine’s?

FINANCES Now is a good time to take stock of your subscriptions. Some credit card companies and budgeting tools can help you find recurring charges and cancel those you no longer need.

Jan. 12-18

OPERATIONS Create a fresh on-hold message promoting your brand and your latest specials.

Jan. 19-25

STRATEGY Organize a staff retreat — even if it’s just to the local pizzeria — to review flex-dollar peak season. Go over sales, marketing campaigns, and the competitions’ efforts. Analyze what worked, what didn’t, and most important, what did you learn?

MARKETING Spring is health fair season. True, such events are a lot of work but they are a proven way to drive new groups to your office.

Jan. 26-Feb. 2

MERCHANDISING What can you promote for Valentine’s Day? Highlight these items in your email bulletins and catchy displays.
