Utah optician Joe Carbone’s charitable work on behalf of kids who need glasses but can’t afford them got a warm pat on the back from NBC News last week. In the segment called “Making a Difference,” Carbone appears on camera to report that his clinic has equipped 100,000 needy kids with glasses since he mortgaged his house to launch his charity. “There’s these kids who would have gone without gasses,” he says. “And why? This is America. There’s no reason why kids should go without glasses.”
