(PRESS RELEASE) EUGENE, OR — Valley Contax, Inc., in collaboration with Contamac US, announced the recipient of the travel grant to attend the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) in Las Vegas. Candidates were required to submit a brief essay detailing their most meaningful contact lens patient. We are pleased to award this grant to Alexis Herstein, a fourth-year student at the University of Houston College of Optometry.
In her submission, Alexis shared a young patient initially suspected of having ADHD due to academic struggles. However, following a diagnosis of keratoconus the mother expressed relief, as this explained her child’s lack of improvement in school. The young boy stated “I’ve never seen this clearly” after a scleral lens was placed on his eye. The experience served as a reminder to Alexis that what may seem routine to clinicians can be life-changing for patients.
