Vogue Rolls Over and Purrs for Cat Eye Frames

New TV series furthers the retro trend.

ABC’s new series “The Astronaut Wives Club” is being called the new “Mad Men” as a source of retro fashion trends, and each character’s sunglasses are “kind of the icing on the cake,” says the show’s costume designer, “something that really finishes off your whole look.” Cat eye styles predominate, and the style mavens at Vogue magazine say that’s just fine. “It’s a universally flattering shape, because those feline proportions accentuate the cheekbones whether they’re high or not,” says one editor. “There’s something overtly sexy about cat-eye sunglasses. Wearing a pair is almost like drawing on thick black eyeliner.”
