VSP Global recently provided an update on its relief efforts following recent natural disasters.

The company recently wrapped up relief efforts in the Baton Rouge, LA, area where at least seven eye care practices with 15 doctors plus staff were impacted by flooding, with offices closed for more than a month. Partnering with nine VSP doctors, the company helped more than 500 adults and children get the no-cost eye care and replacement glasses they needed — 433 onboard the VSP Mobile Eyes clinic. VSP Global reached out to all the VSP doctors in the area, offering solutions that included assisting Eyefinity customers with data back up to the cloud or a hosted solution at no cost for three months. Optometrist Chris Wroten of Bond-Wroten Eye Clinic in Denham Springs, LA, was one of the many optometrists impacted. He shared his story on the As Eye See It blog, and it can also be seen below.

Additionally, Hurricane Matthew lost strength and headed out to sea over the weekend but the storm left behind extensive damage in areas, especially North Carolina, and has continued to threaten lives as floodwaters rise. VSP Global is collaborating with the American Red Cross to provide access to eyecare to local patients through gift certificates, and deployment of the eyecare clinic is being considered as well.
