VSP Vision and AAOF Award Nearly $200,000 in Scholarships to Fourth-Year Optometry Students

(PRESS RELEASE) RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — Last month, VSP Vision and the American Academy of Optometry Foundation(AAOF) announced the recipients of the 2024 Practice Excellence Scholarship, which has been recognizing the very best in what optometry has to offer in patient care and practice management for nearly 40 years.

The Practice Excellence Scholarship is awarded to optometry students who demonstrate excellence in both clinical and academic performance, as well as a commitment to enter the independent practice of optometry. Funded by VSP Vision and administered through the AAOF, nearly $200,000 was awarded to 50 top-performing, fourth-year optometry students in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

“VSP Vision recognizes the importance of supporting the next generation of optometrists as they begin their rewarding careers in eye care,” said VSP Vision Board Chair Matt Wickham, OD. “These scholarships reflect our commitment to support and create opportunities for this vital profession, and we congratulate all of the 2024 recipients.”

“Every year, we are impressed with the academic and clinical excellence demonstrated by each recipient of the Practice Excellence Scholarship and this next generation of optometrists have a bright future ahead of them,” said Valerie Sharpe, OD, FAAO, President, American Academy of Optometry Foundation. “We are grateful to VSP Vision for this partnership as we both continue to champion the success of the optometric profession.”
