MERCHANDISING Spring break can be a good date to target for your first sunwear promotion of the year. “We typically have a sunglass sale around Spring Break,” says Dr. Cynthia Sayers, owner of the EyeShop Optical Center in Lewis Center, OH. “We advertise using tax returns for glasses purchases as well as flex spending that ends March 31st.”
RESEARCH Give each employee a different day to shop your rivals. You’ll learn what the competition is up to, and staff will feel more involved in strategic operations.

MANAGEMENT Work on a “save the day” protocol for when things don’t go the way they’re supposed to and orders are delayed or a patient is double booked or whatever. A gift card that entitles the bearer to a free coffee or movie will smooth ruffled feathers.
REPUTATION MANAGEMENT The entry period for INVISION’s America’s Finest contest closes on Mar. 15. Don’t miss your shot at glory. Get your submission in now!

SALES FLOOR Step outside your store and assess things through the windows. How do the visuals and displays look — and how are your staff interacting with customers? It’s amazing how much more you can observe without sound. Research suggests words account for only around 7% of communication. What kinds of things are your sales staff communicating to your customers with their body language?
COMMUNITY Add a line like this at the bottom of all store correspondence: “Shop smart, shop local: save time, beat traffic, boost our local economy.”

EDUCATION Want to build your Rx-able sunwear business? Your staff needs to shine when explaining the importance of this category to your clients. Start scheduling sunwear training once a quarter. (Ask some of your reps to drop by to help with the training.)
OPERATIONS EMR/PM systems have undergone some of the biggest changes of any technology over the last few years thanks to iPad sign-ins that encourage customers to update their demographics and medical histories, e-signature pads, AI integrations, and so on. But in many cases the technology has outstripped implementation. If you have yet to fully integrate the features in your practice, make it your big to-do item of the month.
