(Press Release) More than two-thirds of drivers report difficulty when driving in poor visual conditions like rainy, cloudy days and at night. For these people, and others who want to optimize their vision behind the wheel, ZEISS has developed DriveSafe.
Available in progressive and single vision designs, DriveSafe lenses offer excellent all-day performance while specifically addressing the needs of drivers.
“Every winter more than 1.3 million people search the internet for topics like night driving and driving in the rain,” said Jens Boy, ZEISS Vision Care’s President, North America. “This suggests that many people are experiencing problems in these situations and actively seeking a solution. ZEISS DriveSafe makes it easy for ECPs to address this significant patient need.”
ZEISS DriveSafe lenses are the product of extensive research into the visual challenges of driving. To better understand the requirements for dynamic vision while driving a car, ZEISS commissioned a study by the automotive research institute FKFS in Stuttgart, using a modified car on a real world course. The study used head and eye tracking systems to observe drivers’ visual behavior. This data was used to create a design with larger distance and midrange vision to allow faster refocusing from the road to the dashboard.
ZEISS also worked with a leading headlight manufacturer to determine the best coating to reduce glare from modern headlights, resulting in DuraVision DriveSafe AR coating.
Available exclusively on DriveSafe lenses, DuraVision DriveSafe specifically targets the wavelengths of Xenon and LED headlights that cause blurred vision and discomfort in night driving.

All DriveSafe lenses feature proprietary ZEISS Luminance Design® technology. This new lens calculation technology is based on pupil size in low light conditions, resulting in clearer, more natural vision at twilight and on cloudy days.
“ZEISS DriveSafe is part of a larger ZEISS effort to help eyeglass wearers navigate the most difficult visual challenges of daily life,” said Jens Boy. “By addressing the stress of driving when visibility is low, we have created an all-day that goes beyond standard lenses by providing an innovative solution for a common source of visual stress.”
