IAPB Brings Sector Together in Mexico to Transform the Future of Global Eye Health

(PRESS RELEASE) MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has brought together over 600 delegates, in person and online, for 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE in Mexico City. The event underscores the urgency of confronting the global eye health crisis and showcases the transformative power of collaboration in tackling one of the world’s most pressing health challenges.

Opening the event, Caroline Casey, IAPB president, said, “We all have different ways in which we can make this change possible. Whether you are an ophthalmologist, optometrist, researcher, campaigner or hustler, we can make a remarkable impact. We can come together in this longing for change, and we will not stop.”

Dr. Valeria Sanchez, general director at the Asociación para Evitar la Ceguera en México, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Today, more than ever, the alliances and partnerships that we form are a commitment to making things happen. We cannot face this great problem alone. We have an opportunity and should be grateful that we are all facing this challenge together. Welcome Mexico City.”

From Global Strategic Partners, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Ian Wishart, CEO of The Foundation, emphasized, “By working together, we can overcome the barriers that hinder progress and ensure that everyone, regardless of their location or circumstances, has access to the eye care that they need. We need to leave a strong legacy for generations to come.”

The event has strong support from companies and organizations across the eye care sector, including event Changemakers, Abbvie, CBM, Johnson & Johnson Vision, National Vision, RestoringVision, Roche, Seva Foundation, and The Vision Catalyst Fund.

Individuals are invited to watch Day 2 of 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE via live stream, accessed at here.
