An ‘Online Influencer’ OD Assesses Her First Visit to Vision Expo East

MAGIC HAPPENS WHEN Vision Expo lands in New York. As an eyecare influencer, I was invited by the Vision Council to attend my first Vision Expo East and experience this magic first hand.

Trend Spotting

The Galleria was home to the latest trends in optical wear. The most popular looks this year were androgyny, accentuated cat eyes and color! It is crucial that ECPs know what is current in optical fashion because if they do not carry these trends, they will find their patients looking elsewhere.

Do I Know You?

My favorite part of Vision Expo was meeting my Instagram followers in real life and bonding with new friends over our common passion of all things eyes. I love to create new relationships in the optical field because I learn new ideas and hear others’ opinions about prescribing, practice management, and what products work best for their practices. Also, when you keep in touch with those you meet, you are able to call on them when questions arise. The network of friends I have created over Instagram was solidified by meeting them at Vision Expo. They are an invaluable resource. I’ve purchased products based on recommendations that really work for my practice and have asked them for help when I need a second opinion about a complex patient case. There is nowhere else that has so many people at one event that share the same interests.

That’s Cool!

In between networking and scoping out new optical trends, I was able to increase my education about new ophthalmic and contact lens technologies and features. Patients need to know what the optical world has to offer and how these new technologies can make their lives more comfortable. I also met with diagnostic companies to learn about the most current fundus cameras and OCTs and what new information they can provide to better treat and diagnose patients. Are you looking for a new auto-refractor or OCT? Vision Expo is a great place to look because you are able to actually try a few before you make a commitment.

It’s A Wrap

Vision Expo was an event to remember. It has so much to offer ECPs because there is everything and anything one needs to expand their knowledge and office. If you have not yet attended, I encourage you to plan the trip. I hope to see you all in Vegas, baby! And be sure to send me a message, @glamoptometrist on Instagram, if you are; I would love to meet you!
