CORE Announces ARVO Plans, CORE Knowledge Game

(PRESS RELEASE) WATERLOO, ONTARIO — With only days to go until ARVO 2018 opens in Honolulu, the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) is announcing its plans for the world’s most renowned eye and vision research conference.

Exhibiting for the first time at the ARVO Annual Meeting, CORE invites all 11,000 attendees to booth #1316 to play CORE Knowledge, the ultimate eye science digital game that will debut in Hawaii. Participants will match wits and reflexes with colleagues and friends from across the planet, answering a range of rapid-fire questions covering multiple basic and clinical research topics. Daily and run-of-conference winners will not only see their names on the in-booth leaderboards and fly home with bragging rights, but are also eligible to walk away with fun prizes.

“Over the past 30 years, CORE has played significant roles in studying and commercializing many of the most exciting advances in ophthalmology and optometry,” said Lyndon Jones, PhD, FCOptom, FAAO, FBCLA, CORE’s director. “CORE Knowledge highlights and celebrates these breakthrough developments, as well as incredible contributions from our peers in academia and industry to further ocular research. We can’t wait to share the first edition of the game with the global community gathered at ARVO 2018.”

In addition, members of the CORE team are sharing aspects of their research during the conference with three posters:

  • Dry Eye Clinical I: Prevalence of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction in Sjogren’s Syndrome Patients, Sunday, April 29 from 3:15 – 5 p.m.
  • Contact Lens: Short-term Comfort Comparison of Two Daily Disposable Contact Lenses of Different Material and Modulus, Monday, April 30, 11:15 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Corneal Wound Repair and Healing: Establishment of Optimal Culture Media in Human Corneal Epithelial Wound Healing Models, Wednesday, May 2, 8:15 – 10 a.m.

CORE senior staff will be present in the booth #1316 from Sunday, April 29 to Wednesday, May 2, to speak with attendees about past, ongoing and future programs. In addition to Dr. Jones, they include:

  • Sruthi Srinivasan, PhD, BS Optom, FAAO, Clinical Research Manager
  • Lakshman Subbaraman, PhD, BSOptom, Head of BioSciences
  • Jill Woods, BSc(Hons), MCOptom, FAAO, FBCLA, Clinical Research Manager
