FDA Approval Granted for Nashville Start-Up’s Novel Contact Lens

(PRESS RELEASE) NASHVILLE, TN — Eyeris, a Nashville start-up, is celebrating its one year anniversary this September. Eyeris has just closed its second round of funding and secured FDA approval, enabling it to bring its daily disposable contact lens to market in January of 2020. It has already started penetrating the market in key cities like Nashville, Chicago, and New York with its innovative software, Patient Finder, that allows consumers to see eye doctors on their schedules.

“Developing a contact lens is by no means a small feat. This is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. I am so proud of our whole team, but I have to commend our manufacturer and the R & D team,” said Andy Barrow, co-founder and CEO of Eyeris. “Their tireless efforts resulted in obtaining our FDA approval for the Eyeris Dailies lens ahead of schedule!”

In October, Eyeris will attend the annual Academy of Optometry in Orlando, Fl. where they will announce the launch of their daily disposable contact lens. Although much higher quality, the lens is priced to compete with online brands like Hubble and also offers the convenience that consumers crave. The Eyeris lens will be available through a wide network of independent optometrists.

In Orlando, Eyeris will host a meet-and-greet with several well-known optometrists at their booth. One of the most beloved and accomplished professors in the field of optometry, Ed Bennett OD, FAAO, will serve beer at the booth the first night of the event. Alan Glazier, OD, founder of ODs on Facebook will also be at the booth along with Melissa Barnett, OD and former president of the Scleral Lens Education Society and current AOA Contact Lens and Cornea Section board member to discuss the doctor/patient relationship.

“Obtaining FDA approval for a novel contact lens is a very big deal in the optometry world. We are thrilled to be able to offer a top quality daily disposable lens at an affordable price to our doctors and patients,” said Jeffrey Sonsino, OD, FAAO, and co-founder of Eyeris. Eyeris is committed to always putting the doctor/patient relationship at the forefront of their mission and continually supporting private practice optometry.

Top-rated, independent optometrists who are interested in becoming part of the Eyeris network and being one of the first to prescribe the lens in January can find out more at myeyeris.com/ods.
