MEI Spotlights New Lens Manufacturing Tech at Mido 2016

(Press Release)
MEI, an Italian supplier of industrial machinery to lens manufacturers and optical chains, showcased new ophthalmic lens edging machinery in two booths at the recently held 2016 Mido Eyewear Show in Italy.

The first booth, in the Tech pavilion, was the main company stand hosting high-volume cutting machinery for large workshops, including the RacerTBA.

RacerTBA features TBA (Throw the Block Away) inspection and edging in a compact design. By combining the indexed rotating table concept with MEI’s experience in CNC machining, RacerTBA aims to increase output while maintaining accuracy.

RacerTBA can process eight lenses at the same time and was designed to lower production costs that derive not only from eliminating the blocks, pads and protective tapes used for traditional edging, but also from integrating lens quality inspection in the machine. Additionally, as a result of developments in the TBA lens orientation system, no preliminary checks on lenses are necessary before edging.

The second MEI booth, in the Lenses pavilion, showcased EzFit, a compact milling machine that the company designed for small workshops and high-end or high-output retail outlets. The machine can perform different edging operations at various angles for different frames – nylor, rimless, wraparound, etc.
