Specsavers announced plans to hire 400 opticians in Canada by 2024.
The company “has set out to build the largest network of opticians in Canada,” according to a press release.
Leading the effort is Claudia Rojas, head of opticianry, Specsavers Canada.
“In my new role as Head of Opticianry, I am guided by my commitment to promote eyecare and eye health awareness,” said Rojas. “I look forward to broadening our network and ensuring opticians feel relevant, important and appreciated, as they are integral to the eyecare industry.”
Rojas has served on the College of Opticians of British Columbia and is currently the vice president of the Opticians Association of Canada and president of the OAC’s British Columbia Chapter.
In January, Specsavers has announced a $100 million investment plan to support the opening of 200 locations across Canada by 2024.
A press release at the time stated that the funds would cover 100 percent of start-up costs for independent Canadian optometrists and opticians to launch community-based clinics and stores while creating 2,000 jobs across the country.
Founded in the U.K., Specsavers entered the Canadian market in November. The company describes itself as “the world’s largest optometrist-owned and -led business.”
Specsavers has more than 2,500 Specsavers locations across 11 countries.
