ABB Optical Group to Participate in Optometry Giving Sight’s 2019 World Sight Day Challenge

(PRESS RELEASE) CORAL SPRINGS,FL – According to Optometry Giving Sight, there are more than 1.2 billion people around the world who are blind or vision impaired because they lack access to eye exams or glasses. A donation of just $5 to Optometry Giving Sight can change that, providing someone in need with vision care and eyewear to help improve their quality of life.

To raise funds for Optometry Giving Sight, ABB Optical Group, a leading national provider of optical products, services and business solutions for the eye care industry, announces its participation as a corporate sponsor for the 2019 World Sight Day Challenge.

Observed annually on the second Thursday in October, World Sight Day is an international day of awareness designed to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.

“Everyone – children, men and women – deserves access to quality vision care. Preventable blindness is a solvable problem. By contributing to Optometry Giving Sight’s World Sight Day Challenge, we help to provide people in need with hope for a life full of opportunity” said ABB
Optical Group CEO Tom Burke. “ABB Optical and our team of more than 1,000 dedicated employees are proud to once again be a sponsor of this important campaign.”

In addition to ABB Optical Group’s corporate sponsorship, the company is also holding a social media charity drive. Through October 31, for every new person that follows the company on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, ABB Optical Group will donate an additional $1 to Optometry Giving Sight.

Since 2011, ABB Optical Group has donated nearly $250,000 to Optometry Giving Sight through its annual World Sight Day Challenge fundraising initiatives, employee donations and other year-round charitable fundraising initiatives. Donations collected through fundraising can help in many ways:

  • $1,000 provides glasses for 200 children
  • $2,000 pays for a clinical equipment kit for community outreach services
  • $3,000 educates clinical staff to provide eye examinations for children
  • $4,000 trains 100 teachers to conduct child eye health screenings
  • $5,000 sponsors a school eye health screening for 2,000 children
  • $10,000 purchases equipment to set up a clinical eye health examination room

Donations to this year’s World Sight Day Challenge will help fund projects that aim to provide sight and hope to more than one million children around the world.
