Eye doctors whose practices have been damaged by civil unrest can get help from Optometry Cares — The AOA Foundation and Optometry’s Fund for Disaster Relief.
The disaster relief fund “can provide support to doctors who have experienced property damage to their home or business, including damages as a result of civil unrest, so they can return to providing eye and vision care in their communities,” AOA stated in a post on its website.
Over the years, the fund has supported doctors through events such as hurricanes, floods and fires.
“Through involvement with OFDR, the family of optometry can again join together in united and immediate action to aid impacted doctors of optometry and the communities they serve,” said AOA President Barbara L. Horn, OD. “It’s long been a priority to deliver disaster relief support whenever and wherever it’s needed by doctors of optometry, and that’s the mission today.”
Numerous practices across the U.S. were damaged in recent weeks in acts of looting and vandalism.
And as INVISION recently reported, Sunny Optometry was stormed by approximately 50 looters, leaving Dr. Alice Sun and her husband unsure of how their business would recover.
Incidents were reported in many other cities, including Boston, San Diego and Washington, DC.
