Bedell Named Exec Director of Ophthalmic Women Leaders

Ophthalmic Women Leaders has appointed Angela Bedell as Executive Director.

Bedell will be responsible for all OWL activities, including strategic planning, financial management of the organization, fund-raising, and program development and implementation.  She will report to the OWL Board of Directors.

Ms. Bedell brings 20-years of comprehensive experience in association management to the position, working primarily in healthcare organizations, including the American Nurses’ Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.  Her professional passion is developing revenue for non-profit organizations and growing membership beyond expectations, as demonstrated when she led the National Rural Health Association from 5,000 to 20,000 members in 2006, and most recently, the Kansas City Medical Society to 400-percent membership growth in less than a year.

Bedell is a Certified Association Executive, is the Vice Chair of the Marketing Section Council for the American Society of Association Executives, and has served in leadership roles on the Membership Council and the Healthcare Committee of the ASAE.

She has been published in national non-profit magazines and has presented at many international conferences.  She was recently selected as the “Distinguished Association Executive” by the Kansas City Society of Association Executives.

“Angela has compiled a consistent track record of leading growth in her association management career,” says Marsha Link, Ph.D., President of OWL.  “I believe that her impressive professional accomplishments and her enthusiasm for OWL’s mission, vision and values will be an asset that will help drive our membership growth, attain financial sustainability, and create programs that will benefit the diverse membership OWL serves across ophthalmology.”
