Could Non-Competes Become a Thing of the Past and More of What You Need to Know for March

Special Envoy On Vision

Sixty-three countries including Nigeria, India, the UK, and China have written to UN Secretary-General António Guterres calling for the appointment of a Special Envoy on Vision to serve as a global champion for vision and mobilize national action on eye health, ensuring that the necessary resources and technical assistance are provided, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has organized a letter signed by CEOs and leaders from over 150 global eye health organizations, including the private sector and NGOs supporting the creation of the special envoy post. IAPB.org

More Myopia Tools

CooperVision is sponsoring Ocumetra’s mEYE Guide, a parent conversation tool for ECPs, and mEYE Gauge, an axial length estimator. This partnership will broaden access to the tools with additional languages beyond English. mEYE Guide is designed to simplify the conversation between ECPs and parents of children with myopia. An additional Ocumetra tool, mEYE Gauge, is also available. While ocular biometry remains the gold standard, axial length estimator mEYE Gauge empowers ECPs to begin integrating axial length without the upfront expense of an optical biometer. Ocumetra’s mEYE Guide and mEYE Gauge are available on a subscription basis. Free trial available at cvi.ocumetra.com. coopervision.com

No Noncompetes?

According to The Vision Council’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team, a proposed rule by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) would outlaw noncompetition clauses in employment agreements. The FTC believes they are an unfair method of competition and violate Section 5 of the FTC Act. The new rule would make it illegal for an employer to: Enter into or attempt to enter into a noncompete with a worker; maintain a noncompete; and represent to a worker that they are subject to a noncompete.
