Dr. Robert Folberg Joins EyeCare Partners as Vice President of Education

(PRESS RELEASE) ST. LOUIS — EyeCare Partners (ECP), the nation’s leading provider of clinically integrated eye care, has named Robert Folberg, M.D., as vice president of Education as part of the company’s newly launched Innovation Center.

In his new role, Dr. Folberg will focus on recruiting physicians, building relationships with universities’ fellowship and residency program leaders, and implementing internal and external education programs for providers. Dr. Folberg has taught ophthalmologists throughout the United States and abroad for many years.

“Many ophthalmologists want to serve patients in a clinical setting, but also want a career that includes clinical research,” said Dr. Folberg. “EyeCare Partners offers physicians the flexibility to do both as part of a world-class team of optometrists and ophthalmologists. With the launch of the new EyeCare Partners Innovation Center, ECP is focused on promoting an organization-wide culture of collaborative innovation. Education will play a key role in sharing the center’s findings and harnessing our collective expertise to improve patient outcomes and drive sight-saving advances in research. I am excited to be part of this.”

Dr. Folberg, a highly accomplished, board-certified ophthalmologist and pathologist, and clinical researcher, started his career as Chief of Ophthalmic Pathology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He later spent 16 years at the University of Iowa. His research lab was funded by the National Eye Institute for 20 consecutive years. Dr. Folberg later worked as Head of Pathology at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he held an ophthalmology appointment at the Illinois Eye and Ear Institute. He served as the Stephan Sharf Founding Dean of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

“It is exciting to have an internationally recognized ophthalmic pathologist and career educator of Dr. Folberg’s caliber join ECP to drive our eye health education and physician recruitment forward,” said Antonio Capone, Jr., M.D., chief clinical officer of ECP. “Education is a pillar of the new EyeCare Partners Innovation Center. Dr. Folberg’s academic background will be a valuable asset as we work together to advance innovation and deliver the absolute best eye care to our patients.”
