INVISION reported on May 10 on a data security incident EvergreenHealth in the Seattle area.
But the breach impacted other ophthalmology practices as well, Gov Info Security reports. Records of 100,000 patients are reportedly affected.
The breach involves Eye Care Leaders, provider of the myCare Integrity electronic medical record platform. The hack resulted in “the deletion of databases and systems configuration data,” according to Gov Info Security.
In addition to EvergreenHealth, affected practices include Allied Eye Physicians & Surgeons Inc. in Ohio Summit Eye Associates in Tennessee. Other eyecare practices have recently reported data breaches, but have not confirmed whether the incidents involved Eye Care Leaders.
EvergreenHealth stated in a notice on its website: “Although Eye Care Leaders has not confirmed that any EvergreenHealth patient information was accessed as a result of the incident, they have informed EvergreenHealth that they cannot rule out that possibility. This information may have included patient names, dates of birth, medical record numbers, and information regarding care received at EvergreenHealth Eye Care Clinic.”
That incident “potentially impacted 20,533 individuals,” Health IT Security reported, citing the U.S. Office for Civil Rights.
