Euclid Vision’s Memorial Statement on the Passing of George Glady

(PRESS RELEASE) It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of one of Euclid’s founders – George Glady.

George’s journey began as an ambitious contact lens designer and manufacturer with a dream to
transform the way people corrected their vision. In the early days of his career, traditional contact lenses were the norm, but he was able to foresee a better alternative for those who suffered from nearsightedness and other refractive errors.

Armed with relentless determination, along with wife Joann Simonsen, and an unyielding commitment to improving patients’; lives, George embarked on a quest to develop a groundbreaking solution, which he did with the introduction of Euclid Emerald lenses.

Through years of research, experimentation, and collaboration with fellow experts in the field, he helped build the revolutionary concept of Ortho-K contact lenses. This innovation has brought hope to countless children and adults who struggled with traditional glasses or contact lenses, most importantly impacting the progression of nearsightedness in young children.

Today, Ortho-K contact lenses are widely recognized and a trusted alternative for vision correction, thanks in no small part to George’s trailblazing efforts.

His pioneering spirit and leadership of the Ortho-K industry will always be remembered.  It is
remarkable that his life’s work has positively impacted millions of patients around the world.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Glady family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Contributions in memory of George E. Glady may be made to:
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC.org) an international relief organization, GPLI (Gas Permeable Lens Institute (contact Beth@GPLI.info) a contact lens educational organization, or Wayland Historical Society: info@waylandnuseum.org
