Eyewear Designer Created Johnny Weir’s Derby Hat

Karen Rose Gold of A-morir also made him a monocle.

The woman behind the A-morir sunglass line took a little break from eyewear to design the Mohawk of Roses hat that figure skater/TV commentator/living legend Johnny Weir wore at the Kentucky Derby. “You really run the risk of making it look campy and costume-y,” says Karen Rose Gold, who did Weir’s Derby hat last year as well, “so it’s important to make sure that everything that I source looks really elegant and beautiful.” Gold also designed a bejeweled monocle that the Planter’s Peanut folks presented to Weir.
