Get Ready For World Sight Day … and More Products and Services For ECPs

World Sight Day is Oct. 13, and Optometry Giving Sight has launched its 10th annual campaign to raise funds for people who are needlessly blind or vision-impaired due to a lack of accessible eyecare. This year’s World Sight Day Challenge will focus on the need for effective, sustainable eye health initiatives for children and adolescents. The campaign will run from Sept.1 until Oct. 31. Money raised will help support Our Children’s Vision, a global campaign to bring better vision and eye health services to 50 million children by 2020. Info: givingsight.org


Illinois Eye Institute Wins Children’s Vision Award

Prevent Blindness and the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health awarded the second annual Bonnie Strickland Champion for Children’s Vision Award to the Illinois Eye Institute at Princeton Vision Clinic based at the Illinois College of Optometry. The award recognizes efforts to improve public health for children’s vision and eye health. The institute was selected for its commitment to the visual needs of Chicago Public Schools students. OWA Adds Board Members

The Optical Women’s Association has added Debra Bulken of Luxottica and Lorinda Fraboni of Walman Optical to its board. Bulken is regional sales director for Luxottica. Before that, she worked at Ciba Vision, Hydrogelvision and Marcolin. Fraboni has been with Walman Optical for 40 years and is a founding member of the OWA. She has previously served as a board member and president and was a recipient of the OWA’s Pyxis award in 2010. Info: opticalwomen.com


Think About Your Eyes Nearly 3 Million Strong

The national Think About Your Eyes consumer campaign has reach a new milestone of 2.5 million visitors to the campaign website since its launch, with the expected number to reach 3 million by year’s end. Think About Your Eyes, now in its fourth year, launched new ads focusing on the importance of kids’ vision and its impact on learning, and the importance of an eye exam in the early detection of eye diseases. The campaign, a mix of national cable TV, radio and online placements, expects to generate more than 1.258 billion impressions in 2016. Info: thinkaboutyoureyes.com


Eyewear Wins Big at ACE Awards

The Accessories Council celebrated its 20th annual ACE Awards, honoring individuals and companies who have furthered the awareness and use of accessories, on Aug. 2 in New York. Eyewear brands represented included Ray-Ban which was awarded Brand of the Year, Vera Bradley for the Humanitarian Award, MCM for the Trendsetter Award and Coach for Designer of the Year.
