John Lennon’s Signature Glasses Part of Rock N Roll Auction in New York

Interested in owning a piece of eyewear history?

Well, you don’t have to imagine it.

All you have to do is give this auction a chance.

A pair of glasses worn by John Lennon will be up for bid this weekend at Julien’s Auctions annual Icons & Idols: Rock ‘N’ Roll Auction in New York.

Lennon’s specs are expected to sell for over $80,000.

“You sort of identified John Lennon as wearing those type of round granny glasses, as he called them himself,” says Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions. “And their photo match to a photograph taken by Ian McKellen for the book ‘The Lives of John Lennon.’ It comes with that book as well.”

A guitar smashed by the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana fame is another headlining piece of the three-day event. It could go for as much as $400,000.

“This guitar was actually smashed in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, 1989,” says Nolan. “He’s actually written on the guitar.”

In all, more than 1,500 items will be part of the auction. Included will be memorabilia and instruments from such notable musicians as: Bob Dylan, Prince, Neil Young, Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, among a lengthy list of others.

The sale will take place live at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City’s Times Square and online from Nov. 11-13.
