Optometry School Wins Accreditation

WORCESTER, MA – The professional optometry program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University has won accreditation from the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education.

The classification of “Accredited” indicates that the program “meets the ACOE standards with no deficiencies or weaknesses that compromise the educational effectiveness of the total program,” according to a press release from the MCPHS University School of Optometry.

The ACOE voted at its annual meeting, held June 20-23, to raise the program’s accreditation classification to “Accredited” following a site visit.

“We couldn’t be more excited to receive the ACOE’s decision,” said Dr. Morris Berman, dean of the optometry school. “Dedication to quality optometric education was at the heart of the tremendous effort needed to achieve this outcome. The faculty worked cohesively over several years to create an excellent program. There is a certain pride that comes with building something new. Our faculty, staff, students and graduates should all be very proud.”

MCPHS University founded the School of Optometry in 2011, at which time it became the 21st school in the U.S.
