Lenstore, a British vision care company, has created an online color-perception quiz, and it’s proving fiendishly difficult.
Not even 1 percent of people who take it score a perfect 10 out of 10, PetaPixel reports.
Give the “Colour Is in the Eye of the Beholder” test a try:
The average member of the British public scores 6 out of 10.
On average, women slightly outperform men on the test, according to PetaPixel. And scores generally decline with age.
“Research suggests that our gender, age and the language we speak can affect how we distinguish between colours and shades,” Lenstore explains.
“Russian speakers have two distinct category words for ‘light blue’ and ‘dark blue,'” PetaPixel quotes Lenstore stating. “Something is never ‘blue’ in Russian, it’s either ‘siniy’ (dark blue) or ‘goluboy’ (light blue). Multiple experiments suggest these words influence our perception of color.”
