TRAINING Designate one day a week for training. If your office is too busy to have an admin day, schedule at least one day a month that you’re open, but not seeing scheduled exams so you can practice role-playing with your team. Consider videotaping your staff in action.

MARKETING Father’s Day (June 16) is almost upon us, so highlight special sunwear and eyewear selections on your social media feeds and website. Each day, post your choices for a different dad type — Baseball Dad, Fishing Dad, Barbeque Dad, Hipster Dad, etc.

OPERATIONS Let’s get organized. Discard one item for every year your practice or store has been open — physical files you know you’re never going to read or need again, broken items waiting to be repaired, old CDs, tapes, and DVDs …. Been in business 17 years? That means 17 items.

MANAGEMENT As we near the end of the second quarter, it’s time to determine dates for your team for third and fourth quarter operations, such as events, blackout periods for staff, and end-of-year marketing plans, says store consultant Megan Crabtree.

INSURANCE One of the first questions an insurer will ask in the wake of a loss is: “Do you have an up-to-date inventory?” Get on top of your records this week.

IN STORE If you take a few days off or are just back from the weekend, it’s the perfect time to do a sensory audit of your store. Take a big lungful of air and consider it. Does it smell clean? Full of spring? If not, get the carpet cleaners in, have the bathroom scrubbed, and the air-conditioning serviced.

LEGAL Review your merchant services agreements and make sure your Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance is up to date.
