He violated probation.
Vitaly Borker, operator of online retailer OpticsFast.com, has been handed a two-year prison sentence, The Associated Press reports.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Sullivan said Borker violated his probation after his 2015 release from prison. He allegedly failed to be honest with officers, making it appear he was no longer involved in selling eyewear on the internet, according to AP.
The New York Times reported that he spent three-and-a-half years in prison “for threatening to stalk, maim and murder customers of his online eyeglass store, DecorMyEyes.” He was convicted of fraud, AP explains.
Sullivan ordered the Brooklyn man “not to own or use a computer, period.”
Borker has also been charged with mail and wire fraud and could face additional prison time for those alleged crimes, AP writes.
Joon H. Kim, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has stated: “As alleged, Vitaly Borker ran his eyewear business, OpticsFast.com, as an online platform for fraud, selling defective and counterfeit merchandise. And as alleged, when his customers rightfully complained or tried to get their money back, Borker harassed and abused them.”
