Optometrists Unveil Lists of Vision-Friendly Children’s Gifts

Two optometrists have unveiled their lists of vision-friendly toys for the holiday season, the American Optometric Association reports.

Kellye Knueppel of the Vision Therapy Center in Brookfield and Madison, WI, rolled out her list of “129 optometrist-approved children’s toys.”

Her list includes “toys that will enhance a child’s visual development, particularly their functional vision skills.”

Dr. Mary Gregory of Omni Vision & Learning in Monticello, MI, released ““Dr. Mary Gregory’s Holiday Toy and Gift Guide.”

AOA notes: “Both lists jingle games and toys that could be classified as classics (checkers and bingo), but a few relatively new gift ideas (i.e., robot toys) are sprinkled in.”

Neither list includes digital devices.

Gregory writes: “Many electronic games and apps are overwhelming to the senses and do not allow for true thinking and processing development.”
