Optometry Giving Sight to Host Inaugural Beacon of Light Dinner at Vision Expo West

(PRESS RELEASE) GOLDEN, CO — Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) will honor more than 40 corporations and individuals for their significant generosity during its inaugural Beacon of Light dinner on Wednesday, September 14 during Vision Expo West. Awards will be presented to donors who have gifted more than $100,000 to OGS over their lifetimes, supporting the mission to end preventable blindness.

The event will occur from 6-9 pm PT at Mercato Della Pescheria, in the Grand Canal Shoppes / St. Mark’s Square at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. Limited tickets are now available for purchase by contacting OGS Development Director Sharyn Gallatin at sharyn.gallatin@givingsight.org.

“The organizations and people who will join us on stage in Las Vegas are shining examples of giving and caring. Collectively, they have contributed more than $13 million to help create sustainable long-term solutions to overcome vision impairment, wherever it may exist around the world,” said Lois Schoenbrun, CAE (Ret.), FAAO, OGS executive director, North America. “Inspired by these donors, we are bringing brighter futures to people who need eye care to reach their full potential.”

Many of the U.S. and Canadian eye care industry’s most prominent organizations, executives, clinicians, publishers, and philanthropists are expected to attend the dinner. They include senior representatives from Alcon, Bausch + Lomb, Carl Zeiss Vision, CooperVision, EssilorLuxottica, FYidoctors, National Vision, Optos, PECAA, Vision Source, and others, with confirmed attendance approaching 100 guests.

With the support of the ophthalmic industry, optometrists, patients, and other donors, Optometry Giving Sight funds programs to develop sustainable infrastructure, train local eye care professionals, and deliver desperately needed vision care in underserved communities both at home and around the globe.

Over the last fifteen years, OGS funding has provided basic eye care services to more than 8 million people, assisted with training more than 14,000 eye care personnel, established more than 130 vision centers, and served people in more than 40 countries. In the last two years alone, OGS has provided funding to more than 30 project partners around the world, totaling more than $1.5 million in grants. For more information, visit givingsight.org.
