(Press Release) Kjerstin Gruys, Ph.D,, acclaimed author of Mirror, Mirror, Off the Wall, Thinking Matters, Fellow at Stanford University, and postdoctoral scholar at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford, will be the keynote speaker at OWL’s annual Signature Event.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 14 from 5:30-7:00 PM at The Wynn during the 2015 American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in Las Vegas, NV.

Dr. Gruys’ research broadly explores the relationship between physical appearance and social inequality, with a particular focus on gender as it intersects with race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, and age, and has been published in several journals, including Social Problems and Social Science & Medicine.

In addition to the Signature Event, OWL will host several educational and networking events geared to a specific demographic of OWL members.

All of these events will take place on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Venetian Hotel. Participants who join OWL at one of these small, interactive sessions will attend informative discussions with those in similar career paths or stages.

Programs include:

“Changing the Way We Communicate: Which Comes First, the WHAT or the WHY?” for the Rising Stars in Ophthalmology Interest Group (2:00-3:00 PM) Sponsored by Paragon BioTeck, co-presenters Sumie Takahara and Megan Sweeney will discuss communication related to effective leadership.
