Registration Now Open for Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association

(PRESS RELEASE) MANALAPAN, NJ — Registration is now open for the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International Clinical Skills Pre-Conference (Sept. 19-20) and 28th annual General Conference (Sept. 21-22) at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Scottsdale Resorts, Scottsdale, AZ.

Nowadays, patients are rarely looked after by just one health professional. In delivering healthcare, an effective team approach can immediately and positively affect patient safety and outcomes. Additionally, the need for effective teams is increasing due to increasing co-morbidities and increasing complexity of specialization of care.

“NORA advocates the values and principles of working as an interdisciplinary team with other professionals to deliver quality patient care to those patients who have physical or cognitive disabilities as a result of an acquired brain injury,” says NORA president Susan Daniel, OD. “To emphasize our commitment toward advancing professional knowledge and understanding of Neuro-Optometric care and encouraging strong working relationships among professionals that are built on mutual respect of each other’s skill sets this year’s conference theme is Education. Collaboration. Rehabilitation. – Achieving Favorable Outcomes Through Interdisciplinary Care.”

The 2019 conference will feature key opinion leaders from optometry and other specialties, offering a combination of hands-on and lecture style continuing education presentations for professionals who provide rehabilitative services to individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Clinical Skills Pre-Conference (Thursday, 9/19 – Friday, 9/20)

The Clinical Skills program provides 14 hours of continuing education and includes both hands-on and lecture style presentations with emphasis on integrated therapeutic approaches to rehabilitation. It offers three different levels which run concurrently and cannot be taken simultaneously.

• Skills Level I – An introduction to neuro-anatomy and neuro-physiology in relation to traumatic brain injury rehabilitative care, with a specific focus on the principles and application of Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation, including strategies and practices on lenses, prisms, etc. with vestibular and proprioception dynamic movement.

• Skills Level II – Provides advanced applications of general rehabilitation and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation.

• Advanced NORA Symposium:
-New this year, Day #1 of the Advanced Course will feature a dual-track program. “Attendees can choose from among morning and afternoon hands-on workshops led by experts from different specialties,” explains NORA VP and Conference Education Chair DeAnn Fitzgerald, OD. “We believe this approach will provide colleagues from different practice areas an opportunity to learn more about how to work together to achieve better results for patients.”

-Day #2 will feature an all-day symposium, “The Importance of a Mind Eye Connection” led by Deborah Zelinsky, OD, FNORA. This interactive hands-on symposium presents the basic foundation for a 21stcentury optometric practice by learning how to stimulate neuroplasticity in a logical way.

General Conference (Saturday, 9/21 – Sunday, 9/22)

The NORA General Conference offers up to 15 additional hours of continuing education for optometrists and allied professionals.
