Special Olympics Chief Tells Inspiring Story of a Vision-Impaired Speed Skater with a Unique Competition Goal

Safilo and Special Olympics International have been working together to support athletes with intellectual disabilities since 2003. They recently announced they will continue for at least another three years.

In the video below, David Evangelista – Special Olympics International’s president and managing director, Europe, Eurasia – tells a story illustrating how the Opening Eyes Program makes a difference for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

He explains the intriguing reason that a particular athlete always went for the silver medal, not the gold one, in speed skating events.
