Walmart Lays Off 258 Optical Manufacturing Workers

The jobs are being cut in Arkansas and Indiana.

Walmart is laying off workers at its optical manufacturing laboratories in Fayetteville, AR, and Crawfordsville, IN, Talk Business & Politics reports.

The cuts will total 150 in Fayetteville and 108 in Crawfordsville, according to the publication. The Fayetteville facility has about 600 workers and has been operating for 23 years.

Walmart told the publication in a statement that it was reducing staff “in response to changing business needs,” with the goal of ensuring “we have the right people in the right place at the right time.” The company said it hopes many of the workers can be kept on in other roles.

This isn’t the first time Walmart has cut staff in one of its optical manufacturing facilities. It laid off 91 employees of its Dallas Optical Center in 2016 as a “result of more automation,”  according to Talk Business & Politics.
