Warby Parker CEO: 1,000 Stores Could Be in Our Future

At present the company has 37 stores.

Neil Blumenthal, co-CEO and co-founder of Warby Parker, said it’s possible his company will one day operate between 800 and 1,000 stores, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The eyewear company made its mark as an e-commerce retailer but has since 2013 been opening physical stores. It now has 37 locations.

Blumenthal tells the Journal: “As new companies grow, they start to look more like the incumbents.”

This comes even as traditional retailers are, in many cases, seeing less traffic, according to the Journal.

But as Warby and other e-commerce-oriented companies move into physical retail, their stores aren’t quite the same as those of traditional retailers. They tend to be showrooms that also drive online sales, the Journal notes.

Among Warby Parker’s recent store openings is a location in Portland. It offers a unique feature: a second floor with an arcade full of classic games such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
