Warning Letters Sent to 38 Prescribers for Potential Violations of ‘Eyeglass Rule’

Each violation can cost up to $16,000 per.

The Federal Trade Commission has sent warning letters to 38 eyeglass prescribers saying that it had received complaints from patients alleging they didn’t get copies of their prescriptions, the Consumerist writes. As the article explains, the FTC’s “Eyeglass Rule” stipulates that “patients receive a copy of their new prescription after an exam — even if the patient doesn’t request it. Nor can the eye doctor charge a fee for releasing the prescription.” The letter advises the prescribers to make sure their practices are in compliance before the FTC hands down any financial penalties. Each violation can result in a fine of up to $16,000.
