She’s charged with armed robbery.
A Washington, DC, woman has been charged in connection with two robberies of optical shops.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department have charged Stephan Simms, 27, with robbery and theft offenses, according to a press release from the department.
The ILORI store in Friendship Heights was robbed on Dec. 5, and the Specs New York store in the Westfield Montgomery mall in Bethesda, MD, was robbed on Jan. 5, police said.
Patch.com reports that, according to police, Simms entered ILORI “and immediately used pepper spray on a store employee.”
She allegedly took five pairs of Chanel sunglasses from ILORI. They were reportedly worth $3,600 in all.
According to the press release, in the Specs New York robbery, Simms and a second unidentified suspect stole multiple brands of sunglasses with a total value of $6,200. “A store employee was pepper sprayed by Simms as she followed the suspects from the store,” police said.
Police are still trying to identify the second suspect.
According to the release, on Feb. 14, Simms was arrested in Washington, DC, on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrants, charging her with armed robbery, theft: $1,000 to under $10,000, and the use of mace and/or a chemical device with the intent to injure.
Simms was extradited to Montgomery County and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where she was ordered to be held without bond.
