Alcon Partners with Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp to Tackle Eye Allergies

Cooper Kupp dealt with eye allergies.

His experience with the malady made him a perfect target for a partnership with Alcon, one of the world’s largest eye care companies.

Alcon recently selected Kupp as a celebrity spokesperson for Pataday Once Daily Relief Extra Strength. In this year’s ad campaign, titled The Right Tool for the Job, Kupp shares the details of his life-long struggle to find relief for his itchy eyes.

“When the seasons change, which, unfortunately, coincides with spring organized team activities (OTAs) and the dog days of training camp, my allergies flare up,” Kupp said in a press release. “In those weeks, when we’re outdoors working out, the pollen can really make my eyes itch and distract me from focusing on the small but crucial details of my work.”

Alcon touts Pataday as “The No. 1 doctor-recommended eye allergy itch relief drop brand and is available without a prescription.”

The claim is based on a 2021 IQVIA ProVoice Survey of Physicians and Optometrists.

Pataday is marketed as a once-a-day product for individuals ages 2 and older who seek eye allergy itch relief from a spectrum of irritants, including animal dander, pollen and grass.

“Alcon is thrilled to welcome Cooper Kupp to the Pataday team as a consumer advocate for an important, but often overlooked, allergy patient need,” said Harvey Brown Jr., Senior Director, Dry Eye and Ocular Health at Alcon. “Approximately 66 million Americans suffer from ocular allergies, but only 9 million use an over-the-counter allergy eye drop to relieve their symptoms. Through this campaign, we hope to encourage eye allergy sufferers to find targeted, fast-acting relief from their eye allergy symptoms.”

The partnership is just another step in Kupp’s ascent from relative obscurity to household name. And it isn’t the only big news of his offseason. Per ESPN, Kupp just signed a $80 million contract extension with the Rams that includes $75 million guaranteed, the most ever given to an NFL receiver.
