City Hit by Rash of Eyewear Thefts

Thieves have been targeting optometrists’ offices in Irving, TX, KTVT-TV reports.

A July 8 surveillance video from Today’s Vision shows two men pulling off a heist, according to the news station. One man distracts employees while the other sneaks frames into his pocket.

Dr. Paul Hayter of Today’s Vision passed the video along to local police.

He told the station that the thieves appear to be “professional guys” who “know what they are doing,” and that it’s not the first time the duo has victimized the business. He said they’ve taken $3,500 worth of merchandise from Today’s Vision in all.

He said other eyecare offices in the area have also fallen victim to the thieves recently.

Optician Alvin George of First Eye Care said his workplace was hit, too. The thieves tend to target towards Tom Ford or Prada frames, he said.

George believes the same two thieves were responsible.

Police are still investigating the cases.
