CooperVision Launches New Business Unit

A president has been named for the business.

PLEASANTON, CA — CooperVision Inc. has created a Specialty Eye Care business unit.

The unit is “designed to accelerate eye care professionals’ access to innovative products that help improve the way people see each day,” according to a press release.

Dr. Juan Carlos Aragon has been named president of the business.

The new Specialty Eye Care business currently encompasses Soflex, Procornea and Paragon Vision Sciences, which design and manufacture specialized contact lenses for the management of myopia and other conditions. These organizations will continue to operate independently, yet share technical, clinical and commercial knowledge while benefiting from CooperVision’s global presence and infrastructure.

Aragon has three decades of experience in general management, professional services, sales, marketing and business development. Since joining CooperVision in 2000, and has held senior roles in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Most recently, he oversaw the company’s Southern & Central European Commercial Operations. He previously served in leadership positions with Ocular Sciences, CIBA Vision and Bausch + Lomb.

“The extensive management and contact lenses technical experience that Juan Carlos brings to the role will be essential to developing even stronger partnerships and opportunities for customers worldwide,” said Andrew Sedgwick, executive vice president, CooperVision. “He and his team will help expand the availability and adoption of advanced specialty products, complementing the wide range of innovative contact lenses developed by CooperVision.”

Aragon graduated as an optometrist from the Superior School of Medicine of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he volunteers as chairman of the board of directors of Optometry Giving Sight and serves as a trustee of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and Vision Aid Overseas.
