Editor’s Note: Let’s Celebrate Some Eyecare Superheroes

Hot off the Summer Olympics in Rio and some serious Team USA domination, you can’t help but feel like you were watching some incredbile superheroes at work. Those athletes train for years, all while living their everyday lives, to be the best and excel in their craft.

By that definition, every field has superheroes and our industry is no different. It was a lot of fun to do this issue’s Big Story, The rX-Men. We feature some of the everyday superheros bringing their all to their opticals to save the day … day after day. Check them out on page 44.

In fact, if you’re attending Vision Expo West, you can meet one of these superheros in the flesh! On Friday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m. in the Galleria Lounge, I will be hosting a Pop Up Talk, in partnership with the Vision Council, with James “DE-ESCALATO” and Dr. Laura Armstrong of Alberta Eye Care in Portland, OR, our 2016 America’s Finest Optical Retailer winners (invisionmag.com/afor2016). We’ll discuss how they opened cold three years ago in a saturated market and give some useful takeaways for differentiating yourself from the competition, how to help the medical and retail sides work better together, and ways to involve your community that ultimately strengthen your business.

If you can’t make it on Friday but just want to come by and say “hi,” I will be in the INVISION booth #24106 from Thursday through Saturday between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. I am no superhero, but I would love to meet our readers in person and hear what you would like to see in the pages of INVISION in the coming months.

Hope to see you there and until then…

Best wishes for your business,
