There Is Always Something New to Learn… Every Single Day

RECENTLY, A FRIEND on LinkedIn who has nothing to do with eyecare left a comment about something I posted from a recent issue. She said she loved the magazine and that “It’s so good … good for all types of people, not just vision professionals!” Needless to say, I was tickled! That’s really our goal here, to make the best use of your time by providing information – regardless of where it comes from – to help you run your businesses better.

It struck me even as I was pulling this issue together. I was editing our Tip Sheet (p. 46) and two of the items on the page had me literally exclaim out loud “Fascinating!” (Hint: Don’t be surprised if I start aiming all my conversation at your right ear next time you see me in person!)

The content we share is geared for an eyecare audience, sure, but it has wider applications than just what we do professionally. Even many of the items in our Big Story — 100 Things Every ECP Should Know (page 34) — have broader reach outside our profession … In fact, I encourage you to share your issues of INVISION with any of your business-owner friends. I guarantee their business-to-business publications aren’t nearly as fun! It just goes to show you — and it’s a wonderful reminder when things start to feel a bit stagnant — that there is literally always something new to learn.

Every single day. But it is up to each of us to be receptive to it and not immediately dismiss new information as “stupid” or “wrong” or with a knee-jerk “That won’t work.” That’s the opposite of a growth mindset and there are too many forces at work trying to make our jobs harder on the daily for that to be anything but a race to failure. (The bad kind, not the good kind. See page 53.)

I challenge you to read this issue with a more open mind than you ever have. Try something you’re not 100% sure of just to see the results. Consider that even if an idea in our pages wouldn’t work for you as is, there may be a way to tweak or modify it to make it work. Experiment. And if you get a chance, drop me a line and tell me what you found fascinating in INVISION recently.
