Editor’s Note: This October, Make Sure You’re Hitting Your Business Goals

October is my favorite month. Here in the Northeast the weather is beautiful. The foliage is gorgeous, and there is still enough time left in the year to avoid any of that “where did another year go?!?” panic.

Back-to-school and Vision Expo West are over, and the holiday season with its holiday shopping frenzy, year-end flex-spending rush and staff looking to squeeze in the last of their paid time off, hasn’t quite revved up yet.

All of that makes a calm October the perfect time to check the status of your 2016 business goals. Are you on target? Ahead? Behind? With more than two months left in the year what can, and should, you adjust to meet or even exceed the goals you set out at the beginning of the year?

It’s also a great time to start thinking about what you’d like to achieve in 2017. Perhaps it’s identifying a new consumer demographic and figuring out ways to attract brand new faces to your practice? Lucky then that we’ve timed our Big Story, “Hide and See” on page 36 to hit just now. Or maybe you really want to focus on shoring up your established patient base and lock them into their annual appointments in the new year? In that case, our story on recall rates on page 48 is basically a step-by-step plan to increase your repeat business.

Here at INVISION, we’re also planning our 2017 initiatives. A rejigger here, a new idea there; I’m pretty excited for what the new year has in store for the magazine. Of course, all of it is possible only with your continued participation in our monthly Brain Squad surveys. If you’re already a member and you’re faithfully spending a few minutes taking our monthly surveys, many thanks! If not, go sign up — invmag.us/brainsquad — and be a part of what keeps making INVISION the best optical trade magazine in the industry… You!

Best wishes for your business,
